My TripAdvisor Review No.275: Kamat Lokaruchi, Ramanagara, Karnataka.

Real Taste of Karnataka Home Food.

We were on the way from Srirangapatnam to Bangalore and my local friend recommended that we stop at Kamat Loka Ruchi, near Ramanagara on the Mysore-Bangalore highway, for lunch. It is a pure vegetarian restaurant, and part of the famous Kamat chain of hotels and restaurants.

The restaurant has the ambience of a heritage cottage in a Karnataka or Kodagu village. The food served here is also in the traditional style on a banana leaf. You can choose to have a buffet meal or ala-carte local dishes like idlis (cooked in a banana leaf), dosas or akki rotis. There is a variety of dishes from different regions of Karnataka.

I tried their traditional special lunch (Rs.220), which included ‘puran poli’ and fruit salad with ice-cream, in addition to the normally served four sabjis (vegetables), salad with methi leaves, curd, papad, millet rotis, rice, sambar and rasam. The food had the local flavour and was very healthy and wholesome.

The restaurant was a bit a crowded but kept neat and clean. The washrooms were also clean, as it should be, for restaurants on the highway. There is a large parking lot inside the gates, and an HP fuel station just next door, and is an ideal place to take a break in a long drive.
