Rankala Lake is one of the prominent landmarks of Kolhapur city. It is a 5 minute walk from the Mahalaxmi Temple towards the west, next to the highway going to Gaganbawda.
We stayed overnight at Kolhapur and got a chance to go for an early morning walk to the lakeside. Many of the local residents of Kolhapur use the promenade by the lake for their regular morning walks. The walkway towards the Shalini Palace and the Boat Club has been beautified with plants and green shrubs, but the track near the temple side were not so clean, though still useable. There is a nice garden with benches, near the Boat Club.
There were many food stalls near the boat club selling snacks like missal, bhel, tea and coffee for the tourists who visit later in the day and in the evenings. Different types of boats are available for a joy ride in the lake.
The calm atmosphere and cool breeze early in the morning makes the lake worth a visit.
