This is simply a ‘Must Visit’ place just 15 km from the Sringeri Mutt parking lot. If you have come to Sringeri in your own transport then do not miss visiting this beauty spot of nature, after your darshan of the Sringeri temples. We took the road to Kigga village which is about 10 km from Sringeri, and then drove another 5 km through the lush greenery and narrow road to reach the falls. There is a pay-and -park and a public washroom with a few small refreshment stalls in a small clearing in the forest.
We had to pay a token entry fee of ₹10 per head and then walk down a flight of steps for about 5 minutes till we reached the falls. We could hear the gush of the water much before we saw the beautiful spectacle of the water hitting the rocks with much force and fury. Even though the height of the falls in not much, probably only about 200 feet or so, but the energy and spray was so strong that it took our breath away. We saw a crowd of about 20 grown ups and kids enjoying the forceful shower with ecstatic shrieks and shouts. There are a few changing rooms, and a small watch tower from where we took some snaps.
The entry to the falls is open from 8 am to 6 pm, and the best time to visit is from September to February, immediately after the monsoons. It may be too dangerous to visit during heavy rains from July to August.
Compared to the much bigger Jog Falls, which can be admired only from a distance, or after an arduous trek to the bottom more than 800 feet, Sirimane Falls is much more accessible and enjoyable. Do come prepared with a change of clothes because you will definitely feel like jumping in for a shower when you see the tempting spray and mist of this magnificent display of nature.
